Zemun is a municipality located within the city of Belgrade, Serbia. Situated on the right bank of the Danube river, it lies upstream from downtown Belgrade and north of the Sava river.
Historically, Zemun functioned as a separate town until it was absorbed into Belgrade in 1934. The continuous urban area of Belgrade expanded during the late 20th century with the development of New Belgrade, which further merged the municipality with the city's core.
