Vlad Tepes

Romania

Vlad III, widely known as Vlad the Impaler or Vlad Dracula, was a historical figure who served as the Voivode of Wallachia during three distinct reigns. Born into the House of Drăculești as the son of Vlad II Dracul, he is primarily remembered for his efforts to consolidate central authority within the region while suppressing the influence of rival boyars.

Vlad III was a significant military leader who resisted the expansion of the Ottoman Empire. One of his most notable military achievements was the 1462 campaign against Sultan Mehmed II, which included the Night Attack at Târgoviște. He died in battle during his final attempt to retain the Wallachian throne, with his death occurring in either 1476 or 1477.
