Călărași is the capital city of Călărași County, located in the Muntenia region of south-east Romania. The city is situated on the banks of the Borcea branch of the Danube River.
Geographically, it is positioned approximately 12 kilometres from the Bulgarian border and 125 kilometres from Bucharest. Călărași is notable for being one of six Romanian county seats located along the Danube River.
