Alexandria is a major city located in Egypt at the western edge of the Nile River Delta. It extends approximately 40 km (25 mi) along the country's northern coast and serves as Egypt's principal seaport.

As the second largest city in Egypt after Cairo, it is also the largest city on the Mediterranean coast. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, Alexandria was one of the most significant cities of antiquity and remains a prominent hub for science, culture, and scholarship.
