Ploiești, formerly spelled Ploești, is a city located in the historical region of Muntenia in Romania. It serves as the county seat of Prahova County and is situated on the Wallachian Plain, approximately 56 km (35 mi) north of the capital city, Bucharest.
As a major urban center in southern Romania, Ploiești has a population of 180,540 according to the 2021 census. It currently ranks as the tenth-most populous city in the country.
