Iernut is a town located in Mureș County within the central Transylvania region of Romania. It was officially designated as a town in 1989 following the implementation of the Romanian rural systematization program.
The administrative area of Iernut includes eight surrounding villages: Cipău (Maroscsapó), Deag (Marosdég), Lechința (Maroslekence), Oarba de Mureș (Marosorbó), Porumbac (Porumbáktanya), Racameț (Józseftanya), Sălcud (Szélkút), and Sfântu Gheorghe (Csapószentgyörgy).
