Balsa is a city located in Romania.
The term balsa also refers to Ochroma pyramidale, a large and fast-growing tree native to the Americas. It is the only member of its genus and belongs to the subfamily Bombacoideae within the mallow family Malvaceae.
The tree is widely used in woodworking because it possesses high strength relative to its low density and soft texture. The name balsa originates from the Spanish word for raft and the Portuguese word for ferry.
