Târgu Jiu is a city located in Romania and serves as the capital of Gorj County within the Oltenia region. It is geographically situated on the Southern Sub-Carpathians along the banks of the river Jiu.
The city administers eight surrounding localities, which include Bârsești, Drăgoieni, Iezureni, Polata, Preajba Mare, Romanești, Slobozia, and Ursați.
