Calafat

Romania

Calafat is a city located in Dolj County in the Oltenia region of southern Romania. It is situated on the banks of the Danube River.

The city is positioned directly opposite the Bulgarian city of Vidin. The two locations are connected by the Calafat-Vidin Bridge, which was opened in 2013. Prior to the construction of this bridge, Calafat was linked to the southern bank of the Danube by boat and later by ferryboat for several centuries following the destruction of bridges during late antiquity.
