Istria is the largest peninsula located within the Adriatic Sea. It is situated at the northern end of the sea between the Gulf of Trieste and the Kvarner Gulf.
The territory of the peninsula is shared by three countries: Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy. Approximately 90% of Istria's total area is part of Croatia, with the majority of this Croatian portion falling within Istria County.
