Copălău is a commune located in Botoșani County within the Western Moldavia region of Romania. The administrative area is currently composed of three distinct villages: Cerbu, Copălău, and Cotu.
Historically, the commune was larger in size and included four additional villages. These four settlements were detached from Copălău in 2003 to form the separate commune of Coșula.
