Milas

Milas is a municipality and district located in the Muğla Province of Turkey. It covers an area of 2,067 km² and had a population of 147,416 as of 2022. The city serves as a center for a region with an active economy and significant historical depth.

The territory of Milas is notable for its rich history and contains twenty-seven archaeological sites of importance. Historically, the city served as the first capital of ancient Caria and later became the capital of the Anatolian beylik of Menteşe during medieval times. Additionally, the nearby Mausoleum of Hecatomnus is currently classified as a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site.
