Moinești is a city located in Bacău County within the Western Moldavia region of Romania. As of 2021, the city has a population of 19,728 and serves as the administrative center for one village, Găzărie.
The name Moinești originates from the Romanian word moină, which translates to "fallow" or "light rain." Historically, the city was home to a significant Jewish community; in 1899, approximately half of the population was Jewish. In Jewish contexts, the city is frequently referred to by the names Mojnescht or Monesht.
