Madinat ash Shamal is the capital city of the Al Shamal municipality in Qatar. Situated more than 100 kilometres (62 mi) north of the nation's capital, Doha, the city was established during the 1970s following Qatar's independence.
The city was officially delimited in 1988. It is bordered by Ar-Ruʼays to the east and Abu Dhalouf to the west.
