Fuerte Olimpo is a city located in Paraguay and serves as the capital of the department of Alto Paraguay. Situated over 830 km (515 mi) north of the national capital, Asunción, it is the northernmost departmental capital in the country.
The city straddles the Paraguay River, which forms the border between Paraguay and Brazil. Originally known as Fuerte Borbón, the city is also recognized by the nickname "la puerta de entrada al Pantanal," signifying its role as an entrance to the Pantanal region.
