Ciudad del Este is the second-largest city in Paraguay and serves as the capital of the Alto Paraná Department. It is situated on the Paraná River, approximately 327 km (203 mi) east of the national capital, Asunción.
The city is located adjacent to the Brazilian border and is connected to Brazil via the Friendship Bridge over the Paraná River. It stands as the largest city within the Triple Frontier region, which also borders Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, and Puerto Iguazú, Argentina. Notable landmarks in the vicinity include the Itaipú Dam, one of the world's largest hydroelectric power plants, and Iguazu Falls.
