Ngerulmud is the seat of government for the Republic of Palau, an island nation situated in the Pacific Ocean. It officially replaced Koror City as the national capital in October 2006.
The settlement is located within the state of Melekeok on Babeldaob, which is the country's largest island. Geographically, Ngerulmud sits approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Koror City and 2 kilometers northwest of Melekeok City.
Ngerulmud is notable for having no permanent fixed population. Due to this characteristic, it holds the distinction of being the least-populous capital city of a sovereign nation in the world.
