The site is significant for its Chalcolithic fortified settlement, which dates back to a period of human habitation lasting from 2600 to 1300 BCE. It is notable for the discovery of thousands of arrowheads and shares historical contemporary links with southeastern Spanish settlements such as Los Millares and El Argar.
