Ponte de Lima is a municipality and the oldest vila in Portugal. It is located in the district of Viana do Castelo and sits on the southern bank of the Lima River. The town derives its name from the medieval bridge, or ponte, that crosses the waterway.
As of 2021, the municipality covers an area of 320.25 square kilometres and has a total population of 41,164. The town itself contains approximately 2,800 inhabitants.
