Alegrete is a municipality located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. It sits at a medium altitude of 102 meters (335 feet) and serves as a significant geographic region within the country.
The municipality covers a total area of 7,803.967 km² (3,013.129 sq mi), making it the largest municipality by area in southern Brazil. As of 2020, the estimated population was 73,028 inhabitants, who are known as Alegretenses.
