Leiria is a city and municipality located in the Central Region of Portugal. It serves as the seat of its own district and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Leiria-Fátima. Historically, the city was part of the province of Beira Litoral.
As the second largest city in the Central Region after Coimbra, Leiria has a municipality population of 128,640. The municipality covers a total area of 565.09 square kilometres (218.18 sq mi).
