Penela

Penela is a municipality situated in the Coimbra District of Portugal. It encompasses an area of 134.80 km² and contains the town of Penela, which has a population of approximately 3,300 inhabitants. As of 2011, the total population of the municipality was recorded at 5,983.

The region is notable for being one of the oldest recognized municipalities in Portugal, with origins dating back to 1137. The town's primary tourist attraction is the Penela Castle.
