Sosnowiec is an industrial city county located in the Dąbrowa Basin of southern Poland within the Silesian Voivodeship. It serves as a key component of the Metropolis GZM municipal association and is situated in the eastern part of the Upper Silesian Industrial Region.
The city is part of the Katowice urban area, a conurbation with a total population of 2.7 million people, and falls within the broader Katowice-Ostrava metropolitan area which houses approximately 5.3 million residents. As of December 2022, the population of Sosnowiec was 189,178.
