Gdańsk is a major seaport located on the Baltic coast in northern Poland. It serves as the capital of the Pomeranian Voivodeship and is currently the sixth-largest city in the country, with a population of 486,492.
The city is situated at the mouth of the Motława River and lies at the southern edge of Gdańsk Bay. It is positioned near the city of Gdynia and the resort town of Sopot, together forming a metropolitan area known as the Tricity (Trójmiasto), which has a total population of approximately 1.5 million.
