Tarnobrzeg is a city located in south-eastern Poland on the east bank of the Vistula river. Situated within the Sandomierz Basin, it borders the town of Sandomierz in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship and has been part of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship since 1999. As of December 31, 2009, the city had a population of 49,419 inhabitants.
The city's history dates back to 1593, when it was granted Magdeburg rights and belonged to the Tarnowski family. While it remained a small town for centuries, Tarnobrzeg underwent significant development following World War II. During this post-war period, it became an industrial center centered on the region's rich sulfur deposits.
