Paczków is a town located in Nysa County within the Opole Voivodeship in southern Poland. Situated on the southeastern outskirts of the historical province of Lower Silesia, it sits along the medieval trade route connecting Lesser Poland to the Klodzko Valley and Prague.
The town is notable for its exceptionally well-preserved medieval fortifications, making it one of the few locations in Europe where such structures remain almost completely intact. Due to these historic defenses, Paczków is frequently referred to as "Polish Carcassonne." Unlike the French Carcassonne, which underwent significant 19th-century reconstruction, the historic buildings in Paczków are authentic.
