Opole is a city situated in southern Poland along the banks of the Oder River. It serves as the historical capital of Upper Silesia and currently functions as the capital of the Opole Voivodeship province and the seat of Opole County.

As the largest city within its province, Opole has a population of approximately 127,387 according to the 2021 census. The surrounding metropolitan area is home to a total of 146,522 inhabitants.
