Jelenia Góra is a historic city located in southwestern Poland within the regions of Silesia and Lower Silesia. It serves as an urban gmina and functions as the seat of Karkonosze County. The city is situated in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, positioned near the Karkonosze mountain range and approximately 10 to 15 kilometres from ski resorts such as Karpacz and Szklarska Poręba.

The area surrounding Jelenia Góra is recognized as one of Poland's most valued locations for recreation and leisure. This includes the oldest spa district, Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój. As of 2021, the city had a population of 77,366.
