Shigar is the headquarters of both the Shigar District and tehsil, located within the Baltistan division of the Gilgit-Baltistan region in northern Pakistan. Situated on the banks of the Shigar River, it is positioned in one of the most remote areas of the region.
The area is a notable destination for tourists and trekkers due to its geographical setting. It is also recognized for containing numerous historical buildings of architectural significance that are associated with several different communities.
