Thatta is a city located in the Pakistani province of Sindh. It served as the medieval capital of the region and functioned as the seat of power for three successive dynasties. The city's construction was ordered by Jam Nizamuddin II in 1495.
The city is noted for its historical significance and numerous monuments. These include the Makli Necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that contains one of the world's largest cemeteries. This site features many monumental tombs built between the 14th and 18th centuries, designed in a syncretic funerary style characteristic of lower Sindh.
Another prominent landmark is the 17th-century Shah Jahan Mosque. The mosque is richly embellished with decorative tiles and is recognized for having the most elaborate display of tile work in South Asia.
