Murree is a mountain resort city situated in the northernmost region of Pakistan's Punjab province. Located in the Galyat region of the Pir Panjal Range within the western Himalayas, the town sits at an average altitude of 2,291 metres (7,516 ft) to the northeast of the capital city, Islamabad.
The town was established in the mid-19th century and served as the summer capital of the British Punjab. It was primarily developed to provide a retreat for British troops seeking relief from the intense heat of the Punjab plains.
