Faisalabad is a major city located in the Rachna Doab region of central Punjab, Pakistan. Formerly known as Lyallpur, it was established during the 1890s as a planned city. It currently serves as the primary industrial center and the second-largest city within the province of Punjab.
The city is the third-most populous urban area in Pakistan. Its population saw significant growth following the partition of British India, increasing sixfold in the decade after the event as hundreds of thousands of East Punjabi Muslim immigrants settled in the region.
