Bahawalnagar is the capital city and administrative headquarters of the Bahawalnagar District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It serves as the headquarter for both the district and its tehsil. According to the 2023 census, it ranks as the 39th largest city in Pakistan by population.
The city was originally known as Rojanwali or Ubbha before being renamed Bahawalnagar in 1904. It was named in honor of Bahawal Khan V, who ruled the Bahawalpur state, a region that now encompasses the districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan.
Geographically, Bahawalnagar is located approximately 262 km south of Lahore and about 175 km east of Bahawalpur. It sits roughly 65 km from District Pakpattan, with the River Sutlej flowing on its northern side at a distance of about 6 miles.
