Chitral is a town located in the northern part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. It is situated along the Chitral River and serves as the administrative capital of the Lower Chitral District.
Historically, the town held significant political status as it was formerly the capital of both the Chitral District and the Chitral state. The state was dissolved between 1969 and 1972, at which point it became an administrative unit of West Pakistan.
