Gwadar is a port city located on the southwestern coast of Pakistan's Balochistan province. Situated along the shores of the Arabian Sea opposite Oman, the city is positioned approximately 120 km southwest of Turbat and lies about 170 km east of the Iranian port city of Chabahar.
Historically, Gwadar served as an overseas possession of the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman from 1783 until it was purchased by Pakistan in 1958. The city had a population exceeding 90,000 according to the 2017 census. In October 2011, Gwadar was officially declared the winter capital of Balochistan.
