Zapatera is a shield volcano situated in the southern region of Nicaragua. It serves as the geological foundation for the landmass known as Isla Zapatera, which is located within Lake Nicaragua.
The island constitutes one of the 78 designated protected areas in Nicaragua. While it is characterized by its volcanic origin, it remains a significant geographical feature within the country's inland water systems.
