Vanimo is the capital of Sandaun Province in the north-westernmost region of Papua New Guinea. It also serves as the administrative center for the Vanimo-Green River District.
The city is situated on a peninsula located near the border with Indonesia. Its geographical position places it in close proximity to Jayapura, which is the capital city of the Indonesian province of Papua.
