Kokoda is a station town located in the Oro Province of Papua New Guinea. Historically, the area served as a foothills settlement situated near local gold fields during the decades leading up to World War II.
The town is primarily known as the northern terminus of the Kokoda Track. It gained significant historical prominence as the site of the Kokoda Track campaign during World War II, where it held strategic importance because it provided the only airfield along the track.
