Punaauia

French Polynesia

Punaʻauiʻa is a commune located in the suburbs of Papeʻete in French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France situated in the Pacific Ocean. It is positioned on the island of Tahiti within the administrative subdivision of the Windward Islands, which are part of the Society Islands.

The commune borders Faʻaʻā to the north and Pāʻea to the south. Historically, it is notable as a residence for the French painter Paul Gauguin in the late 1890s; during his time there, he painted his masterpiece, "Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?"
