Zapote is a city located in Peru. However, it is also identified as the fifth district of the San José canton within the San José province of Costa Rica.
In its role as an administrative unit surrounding San José downtown, the Costa Rican district is primarily residential. It serves as a location for several government buildings, most notably the Presidential House, which functions as the seat of the government.
