Piura is a city located in northwestern Peru, situated along the Piura River north of the Sechura Desert. It serves as the capital of both the Piura Region and the Piura Province. The city is positioned in the central eastern part of its region, approximately 981 kilometers from Lima and near the border with Ecuador.
As of 2017, the city had a population of 484,475, making it the seventh most populous city in Peru. It serves as a primary urban center for the surrounding region.
