Paita is a city located in northwestern Peru and serves as the capital of the Paita Province within the Piura Region. It is situated approximately 1,089 km northwest of Lima, the nation's capital, and lies about 57 km northwest of the regional capital, Piura.
The city is recognized as a leading seaport in the region. Since 2014, Paita has explored the possibility of separating from the Piura Region to establish itself as an independent entity known as the "Miguel Grau Region."
