Cerro de Pasco is a city located in central Peru at the summit of the Andean Mountains. It serves as the capital for both the Pasco Province and the Department of Pasco. The urban area of the city is comprised of three districts: Chaupimarca, Yanacancha, and Simón Bolívar.
The city is a significant mining center for silver, copper, zinc, and lead. Situated at an elevation of 4,330 metres (14,210 ft), it is one of the highest cities in the world. With a population of 58,899, it is either the highest or second-highest city globally with more than 50,000 inhabitants. The elevation reaches up to 4,380 metres (14,370 ft) in the Yanacancha area.
Cerro de Pasco features a very intense cold climate. It is connected to the Peruvian capital, Lima, which is located approximately 300 kilometres (190 mi) away, via both road and rail networks.
