Puerto Maldonado is the capital city of the Madre de Dios department in southeastern Peru. It is situated within the Amazon rainforest, located approximately 55 kilometres (34 mi) west of the Bolivian border.
The city is geographically positioned at the confluence of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers. The Madre de Dios River serves as a tributary to the Madeira River, which eventually flows into the Amazon River.
