Peru

Callao is a seaside city and constitutional province located in Peru. Situated along the Pacific Ocean, it forms an integral part of the Lima metropolitan area alongside the Lima province.

The region holds autonomous status dating back to 1836, when it was first declared a Littoral Province of the Peru–Bolivian Confederation. It was subsequently designated as a Constitutional Province by the government of Ramón Castilla in 1857.
