Cajamarca

Cajamarca, also known by its Quechua name Kashamarka, is the capital and largest city of the Cajamarca Region in northern Peru. Situated in the northern highlands at an elevation of approximately 2,750 meters (8,900 feet) above sea level, it serves as a significant cultural and commercial center within the northern Andes.

The city is located in the valley of the Mashcon River. As of 2015, Cajamarca had an estimated population of about 226,031 inhabitants, ranking it as the 13th largest city in Peru.
