Río Abajo is a corregimiento located within Panama City in the Panamá District of the Panamá Province in Panama. As of 2010, the area had a population of 26,607, following a decline from 33,155 in 1990 and 28,714 in 2000.
The neighborhood is characterized by its West Indian culture, which originated primarily from English Caribbean people who relocated to the area from Anglophone islands in the Antilles, specifically Jamaica and Barbados, more than a century ago. The district features over 30 streets, with 4th, 13th, and 17th streets being among the most notable.
Architecturally, Río Abajo is known for its two-story wooden houses and churches featuring old southern architecture. The area also shares its name with a river that flows through the neighborhood.
