Sohar, officially known as Suhar, is the capital and largest city of the Al Batinah North Governorate in Oman. Located on the Gulf of Oman, it serves as a significant coastal urban center within the country.
The city has a long history as an ancient capital and was historically known by the name Mazūn. It once functioned as an important Islamic port town and is traditionally credited as the mythical birthplace of Sinbad the Sailor.
