Siddharthanagar is a municipality and the administrative headquarters of the Rupandehi District, located within Nepal's Lumbini Province. Situated approximately 265 km (165 mi) west of Kathmandu, the capital city serves as a significant regional hub.
The city was formerly known as Bhairahawa and remains colloquially referred to by that name. It is notable for its proximity to Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, which lies just 25 km (16 mi) to the west. Additionally, Siddharthanagar shares a border with the Indian city of Sonauli in the Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh.
