Nepalgunj, also spelled Nepalganj, is a Sub-Metropolitan City located in the Banke District of Nepal. It is situated on the Terai plains near the southern border with the Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, India. The city is positioned approximately 153 kilometers south-west of Ghorahi and 16 kilometers south of Kohalpur.
The city was designated as a Sub-Metropolitan City on 2071 Paush 28 following the inclusion of several former Village Development Committees, including Udayapur, Bhawaniyapur, Piprahawa, Jaispur, Paraspur, Indrapur, Khaskarkado, Basudevpur, Manikapur, and Puraina. In 2072 Paush 21, Puraini was also added to the territory. During the nationwide restructuring of local levels, ward no. 23 was removed from Nepalgunj to join Janaki Rural Municipality, while ward no. 7 of Hirminiya VDC was subsequently added to the city.
